The San Fermín 2025 chupinazo begins

The San Fermín 2025 chupinazo begins

The most important days of the city of Pamplona are approaching: the San Fermin festival. As the song says, "July 7th is San Fermin," but the day before, the festivities kick off with the traditional "chupinazo" (firecracker).

Thus, on July 6, the people of Navarre officially begin their main festivities after twelve rockets are launched from the town hall balcony in front of a sea of red scarves whose bearers look down and sing various songs.

This year, the Sanfermines festival will once again be celebrated in style and with all its traditions, allowing Navarrese and anyone who travels to Pamplona to enjoy one of Spain's most recognizable festivals. Below, we'll tell you everything you need to know about the "chupinazo" (fireworks) on this opening day of the festivities.

Where and when is the 2025 chupinazo?

As every year, Pamplona hosts this event in its Town Hall Square, in the Town Hall , from whose balcony the authorities announce the beginning of more than a week of festivities in which the main protagonists will be the San Fermín bull runs, as well as music, food, drink and dancing.

Repeating the procedure of other years, the chupinazo begins at 12:00 noon , recommending that those who want to see it arrive hours in advance to the square, as it is not a very large space and fills up with people in just a few minutes.

Traffic closures in Pamplona due to the 2025 chupinazo

These types of popular festivals have a huge impact on the city, as many areas of the center and surrounding areas are occupied by crowds, and streets are closed off to accommodate the route and fencing for the San Fermín bull runs.

These traffic disruptions and interruptions will last for several days, and Pamplona City Council has issued a statement detailing how the San Fermin festivities will affect the city.

« From 10:00 p.m. on July 5th until 6:00 a.m. on the 15th, the following streets will be closed to traffic: Bajada de Labrit, San Ignacio, Estella, Cortes de Navarra, Sancho el Mayor, Bergamín (from San Ignacio to Baja Navarra), Arrieta (from Plaza Príncipe de Viana to Amaya), Paulino Caballero (from Cortes de Navarra to Baja Navarra), Ciudadela, Larraina swimming pool, Aralar street in the access section to the old Fire Station, the path to the Military Sports Center "La Ciudadela", Guipúzcoa Avenue and Yanguas y Miranda street next to Plaza de la Paz», specifies the city council.

Furthermore, they indicate that from 10:00 p.m. on July 5th to 2:00 p.m. on July 15th , the access and circulation regulations for the Old Town approved by the Resolution of the Department of Citizen Security and Coexistence (Amenity Plan) are suspended .

The region's urban transport system, taxis in service, and vehicles used by the police, fire department, ambulances, and other municipal services are exempt from the previous prohibitions.
