Transportation support for students doubled

The Secretariat of the Social Assistance System (SSAS) will renew “Mi Pasaje” (My Passage) and will now be called “I Jalisco support Public Transportation”, with new operating rules and more benefits for vulnerable groups.
Registration will begin in the coming weeks and will start from scratch, with a projection of more than 105 thousand beneficiaries in at least 20 municipalities, including those in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
One of the most significant changes is the increase in free tickets for students, who will now be able to receive up to four tickets per day, double the amount granted in previous years. The head of the SSAS, Priscilla Franco, stressed that this measure seeks to alleviate transportation expenses and facilitate access to education. “This year we estimate 105 thousand beneficiaries and we have some differences in how the program was previously executed, with different modalities.”
Luis, a bachelor's student, said that this change will allow him to save significantly. “Sometimes I need up to four tickets a day, just the amount I could afford. Before, I had to pay out of pocket when they ran out,” he said.
The program will continue to support women, seniors, people with disabilities and their caregivers, who will receive two daily tickets. However, one of the most important changes is the inclusion of relatives of missing persons , who will be able to access two daily tickets for up to four members.
For this new group of beneficiaries, the state government allocated 13.6 million pesos, considering that, according to the National Registry of Missing Persons, in Jalisco there are more than 15 thousand people in this situation.
"It will be intended for relatives of missing persons, up to four members per person and with two daily tickets that they will be able to access," explained Franco Barba.
The Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, explained that the financing of the program will come in part from the surpluses collected by the Urban Electric Train System (Siteur), generated by the 50 cents of change not given on the Light Train and complementary routes.
However, if demand is greater than expected, the SSAS will request an increase in the initial budget of 173.6 million pesos from the state Treasury. “If we see that there is a large demand, why not ask for more resources for the following year and increase the number of beneficiaries?” said the head of the SSAS.
