Trump: Zelensky can end the war "almost immediately" if he gives up Crimea and NATO

US President Donald Trump claims that his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, with whom he will meet today at the White House, can end the war with Russia "almost immediately" if he rules out Crimea and NATO.

Zelensky " can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants, or he can continue fighting " if Ukraine gives up on "taking back" Crimea and "joining NATO," Trump said on his Truth Social platform. "Some things never change," he concluded.

"Remember how it started. Not getting back Crimea, which Obama gave away (12 years ago, without a single shot fired), and not letting Ukraine join NATO," the US president continued.

For Trump, today's meeting with the European leaders who will accompany Zelensky is a "great day at the White House," noting that he has "never received so many at once" and that it is an "honor for the United States."

Traveling to Washington are European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen; NATO Secretary General Mark Rütte; the Presidents of France and Finland, Emmanuel Macron and Alexander Stubb, respectively; and the heads of government of Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy, in that order: Friedrich Merz, Keir Starmer, and Giorgia Meloni.

Following Trump's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday in Alaska, the US, the American advocated for a direct peace agreement between the two countries in conflict, abandoning the initial ceasefire he had demanded of Russia and which Zelensky continues to demand.

Today's meetings at the White House are expected to focus on Russia's demands for territorial surrender and security guarantees for Ukraine.
