Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay , a representative of the Centro Democrático party and leader in the internal polls for the 2026 elections, was the victim of an attack on June 7, 2025 , in the Modelia neighborhood of Fontibón, Bogotá.

Following the recent tense days following the attack, a video circulated on social media showing the presidential candidate emerging from surgery.

Family members and colleagues gathered at the Santa Fé Foundation Hospital in Bogotá after Uribe Turbay left the hospital after his surgery. He was greeted with applause and was carried out on a stretcher with the doctors. However, despite the success of the operation, doctors explained that he remains in critical condition.

"The Santa Fe de Bogotá Foundation reports that patient Miguel Uribe Turbay remains in the Intensive Care Unit, receiving all the necessary monitoring and care, and remains in critical condition. He is stable in this critical condition, and the interventions performed in recent hours have maintained his condition," they explained.

While participating in a political event, a gunman shot Uribe Turbay in the back, allegedly with the help of an accomplice on a motorcycle. The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral, generating widespread outrage and rekindling the debate about the safety of political leaders in the country.

Uribe was rushed to a medical center —the Medicentro Familiar Clinic—with conflicting reports about the severity of his injuries. Some sources mention three gunshots fired during the incident, and two of the shots were aimed at the head.

The National Police arrested two suspects, one of them a minor . The Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation for attempted murder and aggravated injuries.
