What sentence must Luis de Llano serve after the SCJN ruling?

What sentence must Luis de Llano serve after the SCJN ruling?

The legal dispute between Sasha Sokol and Luis de Llano has reached its final resolution. On Wednesday, June 25, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) unanimously rejected the injunction requested by the television producer, thus upholding the ruling that found him responsible for violating the singer's rights when she was a minor.

With this ruling, there is no longer any legal remedy available to De Llano, meaning he will have to abide by the ruling issued in May 2023. The measures imposed include:

Public Apology: The producer must offer a formal apology to Sasha Sokol, using the same media outlets where he previously addressed her. In this apology, he must expressly acknowledge the harm caused and his responsibility.

Financial compensation: She is ordered to pay compensation for moral damages. Although the exact amount has not been disclosed, it was determined based on the impact on Sokol's emotional health. She announced that this sum will be donated in full to organizations that support victims of abuse.

Ban on mentioning Sokol publicly: Since the ruling, Luis de Llano has been banned from mentioning Sasha Sokol in interviews, on social media, or in any other public space, in order to avoid re-victimizing her.

A television conversation revived a past that Sasha Sokol was not willing to keep quiet about.

Beyond the specific case, this ruling represents a historic precedent in Mexico. The SCJN established that in cases of child sexual abuse, civil law does not recognize a statute of limitations, meaning victims can seek justice even decades later.

Sasha Sokol publicly denounced De Llano in March 2022. In her testimony, she stated that she was only 14 years old when she began a relationship with him, who was 39 at the time. She later filed a lawsuit for moral damages. During the trial, De Llano acknowledged the relationship, although she insisted it was consensual. The court concluded that, due to the victim's age, it was a clear abuse of power and trust.

The SCJN's decision not only confirms De Llano's responsibility, but also reinforces the victims' right to be heard, regardless of how much time has passed.
