Tests continue this Thursday of the 2025 Formula 1 preseason with the presence of the cars of the 10 Formula 1 teams, which are driven by the 20 regular drivers (Franco Colapinto, Alpine's reserve, is not participating). The tests, which began this Wednesday and extend until Friday with two shifts per day, are taking place at the Sakhir International Circuit, in Bahrain, the venue for the 4th round of the World Championship that will start on March 16. The television broadcast is in charge of Fox Sports, although all the activity can also be seen via streaming through the Disney+ platform.

In the first appearance of the revamped cars and, at the same time, in the official presentation of several drivers with their new teams, the fastest was Lando Norris (McLaren), runner-up in the championship last season. The Briton achieved a time of 1:30.430 aboard his MCL39 and beat George Russell (Mercedes) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) by 157 and 244 thousandths of a second respectively. Lewis Hamilton, the new addition to Ferrari, finished 13th, while Jack Doohan, Franco Colapinto's direct rival in the second seat of Alpine, finished 14th, far behind the French team's number 1 driver, Pierre Gasly, who finished 6th.

The driver grid, as well as the list of constructors and the designs of the cars, have already been defined. Regarding the protagonists, there have been several changes in the line-up of the 10 teams. Williams will have Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. , who signed a contract until 2028 after his departure from Ferrari for the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, who will team up with Charles Leclerc . Kick Sauber and Haas, meanwhile, have completely renewed themselves. The Swiss hired the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, 20 years old and 2024 Formula 2 champion, and Nico Hulkenberg (just from Haas), and the Americans Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon , who left Alpine.

The Groupe Renault-owned team will then be without Ocon, but will keep Gasly in its ranks, who will have as his teammate the Australian Doohan , who will be part of the main team after two years as a reserve, a place that will now be occupied by Colapinto. Another young driver who will land in Formula 1 is Kimi Antonelli , 18 years old, the youngest this season, and replacing none other than Hamilton at Mercedes : he will race alongside the experienced George Russell .

Only two teams will keep their 2024 drivers in 2025: Aston Martin will continue with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, and McLaren, winner of the last constructors' championship, will do the same with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Red Bull, for its part, promoted Liam Lawson from Racing Bulls to accompany four-time champion Max Verstappen in replacement of the fired Sergio 'Checo' Pérez. Finally, after Lawson's departure, Isack Hadjar will race with Yuki Tsunoda at Racing Bulls.
