Young American throws baby from Paris hotel window

PARIS (AP) — Authorities have arrested a young American woman traveling in Europe after she allegedly threw a newborn baby out of a Paris hotel window , killing the infant.

The incident is believed to have occurred on Monday morning, when the 18-year-old girl allegedly threw the baby from a second-floor window of a hotel, the Paris prosecutor's office reported. Emergency services took the newborn to hospital, but he died.

The young mother was reportedly traveling through Europe from the United States with a group of young adults. She was also reportedly taken to a hospital for medical treatment after giving birth and remains detained there, officials said.

The police child protection unit has taken over the investigation into the case as the homicide of a minor under 15 years of age.

Authorities are considering the possibility of pregnancy denial , a condition in which a woman is unaware of or denies the fact that she is pregnant until the time of delivery.
