One of the most important civilizations in history was ancient Egypt . Even today, artifacts from that era are still being found . One of the most recent sites discovered was a city in the Nile Delta that had been forgotten for more than twenty centuries. It's called Imet , an urban settlement from the Late Egyptian Period that was discovered in the area of Tell el-Fara'in (present-day Sharqia).
It was discovered by an international team of archaeologists led by the University of Manchester. Among the excavated architectural elements are multi-story tower houses, storage structures, remains of a ceremonial causeway, and a temple dedicated to the cobra goddess Wadjet , protector of Lower Egypt.
All in all, this city can be considered key to trade, religion, and daily life in late Egypt. This discovery changes the archaeological map of the country. Imet was located northeast of Cairo in the 4th century BC, and was an important city in the Nile Delta. It was a fundamental residential and commercial center, with a significant role in agriculture as it was located on a site along trade routes.

Mission leader, archaeologist Nicky Nielsen of the University of Manchester , said: “These tower houses are rare elsewhere in Egypt ,” he said. “Their presence here demonstrates that Imet was a prosperous, densely built-up city with a complex urban infrastructure.”
