Ediciones La Uña Rota, National Award for the Best Cultural Editorial Work 2025

Ediciones La Uña Rota, National Award for the Best Cultural Editorial Work 2025

The publishing house La Uña Rota was awarded the 2025 National Prize for Best Cultural Publishing Work this Tuesday. The jury praised the publisher for "its constant dedication, perseverance, originality, and commitment to high-quality publishing with a catalog that is a testament to its demanding spirit and one of the most valuable examples of the independent publishing scene."

Furthermore, he points out that La Uña Rota "has managed to raise awareness, provide coherence, continuity and quality to the publishing of less commercial genres such as dramatic literature, poetry and essays . And this, through a heterogeneous catalogue of unique works born on the frontiers of the avant-garde and the underground that, thanks to a work of opportunity and contextualization, manage to insert themselves into the Spanish cultural discourse."

La Uña Rota "has contributed an exceptional critical perspective to the publishing world with its way of understanding and demonstrating the true value of books and reading," states the minutes of the National Award for the Best Cultural Publishing Work , granted by the Ministry of Culture and endowed with 30,000 euros .

La Uña Rota was founded in Segovia in October 1996 with the small-format collection Libros Inútiles (Useless Books) , which combined genres such as narrative, poetry, theater, drawing, photography, and comics. It primarily brings together poetry collections by authors such as Ángela Segovia , winner of the 2016 National Young Poetry Prize for La curva se hizo barricada (The Curve Became a Barricade) , María Salgado , Luz Pichel , Carlos Bueno , and Lupe Gómez .

In 2003, the collection Los Libros del Apuntador was inaugurated, which brings together essays and classical literature. In 2005, the collection Los Libros Robados was born, comprising texts written for the theater. In 2009, he edited the volume Cenizas escogidas: obras 1989-2009 by Rodrigo García , and shortly afterwards, he published the play La casa de la fuerza by Angélica Liddell , winner of the National Prize for Dramatic Literature in 2012, and the volume Teatro 1989-2014 by Juan Mayorga .
