If you liked 'The Eternaut,' you'll love this apocalyptic movie on Prime Video: "It was a pleasant surprise."

For those who enjoyed the Netflix series The Eternaut for its social vision of collapse, its snowy aesthetic, and its sci-fi-inspired moral dilemmas, there's a film that will captivate you from the very first minute. It's an intense, award-winning Korean story with a message as devastating as it is visually striking.

Released in its home country in 2013, this film has become a phenomenon among fans of post-apocalyptic cinema. Although its run in theaters went largely unnoticed, it has won over critics and audiences thanks to its thoughtful setting and ensemble narrative reminiscent of the best Asian dystopian cinema. A few years later, in 2020, its director, Bong Joon-ho , won the Oscar for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture for Parasite .

It's a claustrophobic and allegorical plot about a train traveling through a frozen world . The humanity that has survived the climate disaster lives confined to its carriages, organized according to a rigid class system that reflects the inequalities of society itself. This futuristic fable offers no respite, transforming each carriage into a universe filled with narrative tension.

Visually powerful, the film deploys a dark and oppressive aesthetic that accentuates the desperation of the characters, trapped in a closed space where rebellion becomes the only possible way out. Bong demonstrates his mastery of filming in tight spaces with a dynamic and precise camera, creating memorable action sequences , such as the night vision combat scene. All this without sacrificing his usual blend of dark comedy, social criticism, and extreme staging.

With a surprising cast led by Chris Evans , Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris and John Hurt, this international production based on the French comic Le Transperceneige has rightly earned its place among the great science fiction stories of the 21st century. If El Eternauta left the bar high with frozen futures and parables about survival , Rompenieves (Snowpiercer) is that surprise that will remind you of Ricardo Darín's series. It is available on Prime Video , and served as the origin for a later series of the same name.
