José Coronado in the crazy Netflix film: one of the best comedies from the director of 'The Nightmare'

It's rare for a comedy to reach the top of the list on Netflix in Spain, but this time it did so thanks to a lighthearted, fresh, and deeply human approach. José Coronado sweeps the streaming platform with a surprising Spanish comedy that breaks family stereotypes and is directed by Arantxa Echevarría , director of the Goya-winning film The Infiltrator , among other films.

Coronado, a regular in dramatic roles, surprises with an unexpected twist by playing a relaxed and endearing character, far from his usual. At his side, Belén Rueda plays a perfectionist mother trapped by her own social conventions, sparking a confrontation that is as funny as it is revealing. The cast is completed by Gonzalo de Castro, Carolina Yuste , Gonzalo Ramos, and Pepa Aniorte, among others.

The chemistry between Coronado and Rueda, who previously worked together on films like El cuerpo (The Body), becomes one of the main driving forces of this story. Echevarría, renowned for her sensitivity in exploring social contrasts, uses this encounter between two antagonistic families to construct a comedy that goes beyond easy laughs.

In it, Lucía is convinced that her life is exemplary and orderly. Since her marriage, she has dedicated all her energy to shaping a family that fits her vision of perfection. However, that stability begins to falter when her son introduces her to Sara, his partner: a spontaneous young woman oblivious to any conventionality. Along with her comes a family of in-laws that bears little to do with the ideals Lucía projected for her son. From this unexpected encounter, the protagonist will begin to rethink her own beliefs and understand that what she always considered perfect may not be so perfect.

Word of mouth on social media and critical acclaim have been key to the popularity of this film, which has steadily gained viewers since its addition to the catalog in 2021. Its title, The Perfect Family , is just the starting point for a satire that invites us to question the concept of a functional family and has established itself as one of the best Spanish comedies of recent years.
