During the last broadcast of "Día a Día," the Caracol morning show, viewers witnessed an unexpected visit from Marcela Sarmiento, who decided to step back from Colombian television 20 years ago.
On this occasion, the renowned presenter opened her heart to viewers and revealed details of the heartbreaking reason that led her to be absent from national screens for so long.

According to the woman, she was pregnant while working on the show's set, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her son, Miguel.
However, her dream of introducing the baby to the viewers of 'Día a Día', as she had done with her eldest daughter, was not possible, because on June 6, 2005, the baby died during childbirth.
“I wanted to come back, but I was left so vulnerable, so naked in soul, mind and heart, I was so hurt that I couldn't face anything or anyone,” Sarmiento said during the live broadcast.
"There was a kind of trophy to show off, a treasure on its way that belonged to everyone: the audience, me, my colleagues, everyone, and that trophy never arrived," the presenter added.

Given the difficult situation she had to face, her husband, Alejandro Nieto, recommended that she take some time to recover and process what had happened to their little baby.
Although at first his retirement seemed temporary, one day Sarmiento decided to give strength to his family, but from another place, so he packed his bags and left the country for a foreign country.

"Paulina needed me as a mother. I had to be there as a mother and as a wife. I mean, I had lost a son, and at that very moment, I had to be able to put the pieces back together quickly," the presenter said.
Marcela spent a season in the United States and another in Spain, where she had the opportunity to begin her healing process away from the eyes of television viewers and those who knew her.
