Roca Rey makes a grand comeback: four ears and a grand opening in Palencia

Andrés Roca Rey returned to the bullring in style after the injury he suffered on August 21st at the Corridas Generales in Bilbao, where he had a tremendous afternoon, earning three resounding ears. The Peruvian star reunited with the fans this Tuesday at the San Antolín Fair in Palencia and did so with the apotheosis of four ears: the Lima native put in a great performance and cut off the ears of the bull that made his comeback, Bejarano by name, from the Juan Manuel Criado ranch, who was applauded as he was dragged off.

With a great atmosphere and a seemingly full house in the stands at the Campos Góticos bullring, he commanded and also collected the double trophy for the rough fifth bull and left the ring on the shoulders of Alejandro Talavante, who earned two ears for the fourth bull, and Tomás Rufo, with a prize from each of his group. A triple grand entrance for the Cóndor's happy return after these days in dry dock.

According to the medical report, Roca Rey suffered "trauma to his left foot on the 21st when, while kneeling during the bullfight, he was stepped on by the bull. Due to the trauma, he suffers moderate swelling of the foot, intense pain, and instability. An MRI has been performed, which shows: a bruise at the Chopart joint between the scaphoid and cuboid; joint effusion at the aforementioned joint; and ligamentous strain that compromises the stability of the joint."

This injury, due to its location, prevents him from propelling, landing, and quickly turning his foot, which clearly compromises the patient's ability to execute "sudden, explosive, and sustained movements, typical of his profession, which requires complete stability, immediate changes of support, and the ability to react," the report stated. But Roca accelerated his recovery with double sessions to return to the ring at the Goya bullring in Palencia, a bullring with which he maintains a close relationship.

Their next September dates are: Lisbon on the 5th, Valladolid on the 12th, Albacete on the 13th, Salamanca on the 14th, Murcia on the 16th, Nimes on the 20th, Logroño on the 23rd, and Seville on the 28th.
