The government has begun relocating capybaras from Nordelta, while it is betting on a contraceptive vaccine.

Daniel Scioli confirmed that work is underway to transfer three families of "high-risk" rodents to a sanctuary in the Delta. For now, only high-risk cases will be transferred.
The government's plan for the capybaras in Nordelta has been put on hold: they plan to relocate them to an island in the Delta . Meanwhile, the contraceptive vaccination plan already underway to control the capybara population will continue.
This was agreed upon after a meeting between national authorities and residents of the gated community . It's worth mentioning that the Nordelta community had already initiated this program, which was approved in December by the Buenos Aires Ministry of Agrarian Development, which oversees the Flora and Fauna Directorate.
Nordelta. Capybaras invaded this town in Tigre.

At the beginning of this year , nearly 300 males were vaccinated with a dose that sterilizes for a year, reported Ámbito . The plan is to administer a second dose in August to reinforce the effect and evaluate the results at the end of the year.
Furthermore, during the meeting, the Government was informed about the existence of another single-dose vaccine , used in the United States and Europe, although it is not yet available in Argentina. During that same meeting, efforts were made with health agencies to advance the approval of this technology in the country.
"We are concerned about the situation of the animals and the impact on people," Daniel Scioli, the nation's Secretary of Tourism, Environment, and Sports, told TN. He added, "I am already in talks with the public agencies involved to collaborate on the approval of a new vaccine to regulate animal population growth."
The cost of the vaccination operation and any possible relocations will be covered by Nordelta SA . Regarding the relocation of the capybaras, it was decided that for the time being, only three families at risk due to their proximity to busy streets will be relocated, in order to protect their safety and that of drivers.

I want to express my gratitude for the commitment and technical seriousness with which a complex situation in Nordelta is being addressed: the coexistence between people and the capybara population.

The former governor of Buenos Aires also explained that he will seek dialogue with provincial authorities to implement measures that can be applied in the short term. "We are going to promote the transfer of the three families of animals that are most at risk to a reserve in the Delta, where they can live in a safe environment," he emphasized.
This is because, in the first half of the year, 43 capybaras were killed by roadkill in Nordelta . It is estimated that around 35 families live there, spread across the area.
The meeting was attended by Fernando Brom, Undersecretary of the Environment; Manuel Kosoy, president of the Nordelta Neighborhood Association; Tatiana Melfi, a resident and director of one of the neighborhoods; and Constanza Falguera, a biologist responsible for wildlife management for the neighborhood organization.
