This Thursday, July 3, the new Andalusian Bullfighting Regulations come into effect in the Maestranza bullring.

The Pagés Company has announced that this Thursday, July 3 , on the occasion of the first bullfight of the Promotion Cycle, the new Andalusian Bullfighting Regulations will come into effect at the Real Maestranza Bullring in Seville.

This new regulation, which was published in the Official Gazette (BOJA) No. 61 on March 31, 2025, will apply for all bullfights held at this bullring starting Thursday, July 3. The regulation has been approved by the Andalusian Bullfighting Affairs Council (CATA) .

According to the Andalusian Regional Government's Department of the Presidency , among its main new features is the inclusion of public tentaderos as a new type of show. Furthermore, bullfights with recortadores and forçados are expressly included in the classification. Bullring facilities are more precisely defined, compliance with health and safety requirements is emphasized, medical services are more precisely monitored; and the Andalusian Register of Bullring Presidents is created.

The maximum weight for bulls in bullfights with picadors in third-class and portable arenas has been increased, eliminating the carcass weight due to overuse. In the event of the show being cancelled or modified due to substitution, spectators will have the right to return their tickets.

On the other hand, the number of spare bulls that must be provided when more than six bulls or young bulls are fought is established, and a provision is made for mixed shows where three or fewer bulls are fought. Regarding the drawing of lots, it is possible that, by unanimous vote of all the matadors involved or their representatives, an exception may be made to the obligation to draw lots in the cases expressly specified.

The composition of the teams is regulated in detail and the involvement of the matadors in the suerte de varas is clarified, thus avoiding discrepancies.
