Updated ranking of the most powerful passports: Argentina's current position

Singapore once again led the global mobility index. Japan, South Korea, and several European countries round out the top 10. There were few changes for Latin America.
The Henley Passport Index, one of the most recognized rankings on global mobility, has published its updated July 2025 edition. The ranking , prepared by Henley & Partners using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), analyzes how many international destinations can be visited without a visa , and offers a snapshot of the power of each passport in the global context.
Once again, Singapore remains at the top , with visa-free access to 193 countries. It's followed by Japan and South Korea, both with 190 destinations. Third place is occupied by a group of European countries, including Germany, Spain, France, and Italy, with 189 destinations available to their citizens without prior visa requirements.
In the regional landscape, Chile leads the way as the most powerful Latin American passport , ranking 14th and offering visa-free access to 176 destinations.
Argentina shares 16th place with Brazil and allows visa-free entry to 170 countries. Although there were no major changes compared to previous editions, Argentina's ranking remains below the place it held a decade ago , when it made it into the Latin American Top 10 with the greatest potential.
Mexico is in 22nd place, with 158 destinations, and Uruguay follows closely behind in 23rd, with 157. Further behind are Peru (32nd) with 143 destinations, Colombia and Honduras (37th) with 132, and Ecuador (52nd) with 94.
The least powerful passports in the region remain those of Cuba (76th) and Haiti (83rd), with visa-free access to 60 and 52 countries respectively.
The US continues to fall, while the United Arab Emirates takes the leap.A striking fact from the report is the sustained decline of the United States. The US passport, which held the top spot globally in 2014, is now in tenth place, offering visa-free access to 182 destinations. It could even be dropped from the Top 10 in the next edition, Henley & Partners warned.
In contrast, the United Arab Emirates has seen a notable rise , moving from 42nd to 8th place over the past decade, consolidating its position as the only developing country in the Top 10. The same is true for China, which climbed to 60th place after expanding bilateral agreements in recent years.
The passport as a tool of powerAccording to the report's authors, the passport has become a direct reflection of a country's foreign policy and diplomatic influence. The possibility of visa-free entry is directly related to the level of bilateral relations, internal stability, and international outreach.
Visa-free access is not automatic. It is earned and maintained through an active diplomatic strategy, the consulting firm noted.
The ranking evaluates 199 passports and 227 destinations and is updated quarterly. It is a key tool for governments, investors, businesses, and citizens seeking to assess their freedom of movement and plan investments or future residency in other countries.
