Why Taylor Swift Didn’t Attend Travis Kelce’s First NFL Game of the Season
THE RUNDOWN
- Travis Kelce played his first game of the season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
- Taylor Swift did not attend.
- She is expected to be at his first game at Arrowhead stadium.
On Saturday, Travis Kelce joined the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil as they faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers. But Taylor Swift was not in the stands, even though it was Kelce’s first game since they announced their engagement in August. The Week 1 game in São Paulo at Corinthians Arena is a part of the league’s international expansion, and they have planned several games abroad this season.
Given the moment’s importance, fans were surprised Swift was not available to cheer on her new fiancé. According to TMZ, a big part of the reason that the Eras Tour star didn’t make it is that it was a really short trip. With the NFL season commencing, the Chiefs needed to head right back home post-game and it seemed like no wives or girlfriends were on hand for the event.
It may also be that Swift is incredibly busy with her own projects, since she also recently announced that her next album, The Life of a Showgirl, will be out next month.
Kelce is set to play the Philadelphia Eagles at his team’s home stadium, Arrowhead, on September 14. Historically, Swift shows up for games at Arrowhead, and a source told Page Six in late 2024 that she is less comfortable at away games due to security concerns.
“She’s not going anywhere unless she knows the venue intimately and it has been thoroughly scouted and secured in advance,” said the insider.
There are also often rules around what players can do the night before away games, according to the Bleacher Report, like they must stay in the same hotel together and abide by a curfew. It is essentially a work trip for Kelce, without much space for fun.
