According to regulations, using cell phones to read or access digital applications like Waze, even when the vehicle is stopped at a traffic light, can result in a fine exceeding 700,000 pesos.
However, attorney Edwar Loaiza, speaking with El Tiempo, explained that there are some exceptions, such as the implementation of accessories or auxiliary equipment that allow electronic devices to be supported, keeping hands-free.

In the case of Waze, he emphasized that the platform must start operating from the beginning of the trip to avoid distractions during the journey. He also emphasized the importance of not checking the device until the end of the trip, as authorities may impose sanctions on those who do not comply with the rule.
The consequences for committing this violation may include fines, suspension of the driver's license, or immobilization of the vehicle , especially if it is proven to be a repeat offense.

Knowing the legal provisions regarding the use of electronic devices inside cars reduces the risk of road accidents, ensures driver safety, and can help avoid fines.
Accordingly, it is advisable to place the cell phone on the car's air vent, the rearview mirror, or the radio , as long as the equipment does not obstruct the view or normal operation of the steering wheel.

To minimize travel issues, it's essential to ensure your device is properly secured to its support so it doesn't fall off when you move while driving.
Conversely, if the mobile device is not used as a travel guide, people can choose to keep it in their pants pocket, glove compartment, or any other alternative that allows them to drive without any distractions.
