Five Mexican government companies that have reported multi-million dollar losses

MEXICO CITY.— This Friday morning, on its social network account “X”, formerly Twitter, the organization @GuacamayanLeaks noted that the Mexican government “loses 2.456 billion pesos” every day in five of the companies it manages.
The group, which emphasizes the defense of freedom of expression, asserts that, “Between Pemex, CFE, the Mayan Train, Mexicana, and AIFA, they are draining public funds without control,” and adds that, “Meanwhile, families pay VAT, ISR, and IEPS to finance the failure.”

According to an article by journalist Aldo Munguía , published last Wednesday by the newspaper El Financiero , he points out that the state-owned companies controlled by the Army had poor performance in 2024 .
He added that the Mexican airline lost 3 million 421 thousand pesos daily due to the lack of its own revenue and high operating costs.
According to Méxicana's financial statements , held by El Financiero, the airline earned 385 million pesos from ticket sales.
This figure contrasts with the 1.637 billion pesos the airline required to maintain operations in its first year of operation.
In the middle of this month, Aldo Munguía published in the same newspaper that the Maya Train earned 275 million pesos from transporting passengers and selling souvenirs .
On the other hand, the operating costs of the Mayan Train reached 2,837 million pesos .
In another publication of El Financiero, Aldo Munguía reported that Felipe Ángeles International Airport achieved operating profits and, in 2024, earned 285 million pesos, according to information from the income statements obtained by the newspaper.
The article also notes that since its launch, the AIFA has received just over 4.133 billion pesos in funds from the treasury .
For this year, the government allocated 900 million pesos to AIFA .
At the end of last April, Forbes Mexico announced that the CFE had announced losses of 271,574 million pesos during 2024.
For its part, Global Energy announced on its website that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) recorded losses of 16,092 million pesos in the first quarter of 2025, according to its financial report sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange .
The negative results are primarily attributed to rising fuel prices. In addition, operating costs increased by 32.2%, reaching 143.109 billion pesos.
According to an article by Karol García , published by the newspaper El Economista , Petróleos Mexicanos ( Pemex reported a net loss of 43,329 million pesos in the first quarter of 2025.
The publication also notes that the state-owned company's total revenue fell 2.5% to 395.59 billion pesos , due to export sales down 7.6%.
In the same sense, an article by Enya M. Contreras , published last Wednesday by El Imparcial , points out that Pemex reported to the US Securities Exchange Commission a negative outlook for its operations and finances during the first quarter of 2025.
It is also reported that the Mexican oil company reported a net loss of 43,329 million pesos , a decrease of 11.3%.
Between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, Pemex reported accumulated losses of 828,599 million pesos , the note adds.
