Funeral assistance in Colpensiones: this is how you can request the form in 2025

According to article 56 of Law 2381 of 2024, the funeral assistance offered by Colpensiones is an economic benefit given to people who assume the funeral expenses of an affiliate or pensioner.
The rule establishes that, depending on the case, this assistance may not be less than five minimum wages nor more than 10 times the aforementioned salary.
This right will remain subject to the new pension reform, which will come into effect on July 1, 2025.
Anyone requesting this assistance must verify that at the time of death, the person was on the payroll, was an active contributor and was up to date with the payment of his or her obligations. In addition, it must be demonstrated that the applicant covered the funeral expenses of the member or pensioner.

The amount will be equivalent to the value of the last monthly pension earned by the pensioner or the last base salary paid by the member, according to the Ministry of Justice.
The procedure for recognition of this right must be carried out within 12 months following the death of the member or pensioner.

Once the above-mentioned requirements have been met, the person may go to one of the Colpensiones service points or offices to obtain the funeral assistance application form .
This can also be requested through the entity's website. Enter the official Colpensiones portal , go to the main menu and click on the 'Attention and services to citizens' option, then on the 'Procedures' option and finally on 'Download form'.

The applicant may be a beneficiary, agent or third party. In the application form, some of the data to be filled out are the type of application, the application, the information of the deceased, the form of payment of the funeral expenses, the type of beneficiary, the natural person beneficiary, the legal person beneficiary, the information of the agent and the information of the third party.
Other documents to be submitted Once all the requested information is completed in the form, according to your case, attach the following documents :
- Original identification document.
- Civil registry of death of the member or pensioner with an issue date no more than 3 months old.
- Invoice for funeral expenses with a cancellation stamp indicating the name, surname, who paid the invoice and the description of the services provided.
- Certification from the center that provided the funeral services.
- Pre-funeral contract (if applicable): This document consists of the contracting of a funeral service in advance, preventively and for life.
- Authorization letter from the heirs authorizing a single member of the group to collect.
- Payment account format containing information on the value of funeral assistance.
- Authorization letter for the powers authorized for a third party.
Then, submit the duly completed form and wait for the confirmation letter. If the application is recognized, it must be notified at any Colpensiones point nationwide or by electronic means with prior authorization, according to the Ministry of Justice.

On the contrary, if the request is not recognized without just cause , the applicant may take the claim to a first instance through a right of petition to request information from the entity and have the benefit recognized as a subsidiary.
