Heavy rains caused puddles and flooding in several Mexico City boroughs this Saturday.

On the afternoon of Saturday, July 12, heavy rains , accompanied by gusts of wind and hail in some areas, affected several boroughs in Mexico City, prompting the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) to update the Yellow Alert .
The districts under alert for heavy rains are: Alvaro Obregon, Benito Juarez, Coyoacan, Cuauhtemoc, Cuajimalpa, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Milpa Alta, Tlahuac, Tlalpan and Xochimilco.
According to the capital's authorities, rainfall of between 15 and 29 mm, wind gusts exceeding 50 km/h and hail are forecast between 5:25 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Road damage due to floodingThis afternoon's rains have caused puddles and flooding on several roads in the capital, complicating traffic. Some of the affected areas include:
-Plateros and Capuchinas, San José Insurgentes neighborhood, in Benito Juárez. Alternative route: Insurgentes and Río Mixcoac Avenue.
-Under the bridge of San Antonio Avenue and the Periférico ring road, Santa María Nonoalco neighborhood, also in Benito Juárez.
-Gregorio Allegri and Cerrada Don Giovani, Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood, Tláhuac municipality.
-Cuernavaca and Francisco Girardot Railroad, Santa María Nonoalco neighborhood, in Álvaro Obregón.
-Sound 13 and Tláhuac Avenue, Santa Cecilia neighborhood.
-Av. Agustín Lara and Juventino Rosas, San José neighborhood, Tláhuac, where a 500-meter-long (1,600-foot) flooding depth of 20 centimeters has been reported, with no damage to homes or businesses.
Operation Tlaloque and flood actionsAs part of Operation Tlaloque 2025, personnel from the SSC's Police Operations Undersecretariat are carrying out road maintenance and manhole cleaning work, particularly in critical areas such as the Periférico Ring Road near Barranca del Muerto, in the Alpes neighborhood of Álvaro Obregón.
The SGIRPC recommends that the population take precautions, such as:
- Carry an umbrella or raincoat.
- Avoid transiting through flooded areas.
- Remove objects that may fall from outside.
- Do not climb onto rooftops or approach poles or cables.
- Keep drains clean.
- Drive with caution due to the possible presence of branches or objects carried by the current.
Social media users shared images and videos of the rains this Saturday afternoon, with a waterfall reported inside the Insurgentes Sur Metro station.
