The automotive industry has always been very important to Americans, and one of the most in-depth publications on the American sector is Automotive News magazine. With great celebration, the magazine has selected 100 women executives in the automotive industry.

There are highly prestigious Americans like Mary Barra, who has been at the helm of General Motors for 11 years. It hasn't been an easy period, and even when she joined the company, which had been one of the best and most important in the world, there were already problems, but she has managed it well. Automotive News magazine places great importance on male and female managers in the sector, but believes that 25 years ago it was very difficult to find women with important positions in the automotive industry, and now it celebrates being able to present 100 high-level women in America.

Women's successes encourage more hiring

The women who are part of this centenary are well-educated. Virtually all of them have attended good universities with degrees such as engineering, but some have also studied law or finance, and quite a few also completed a master's program after their studies.

It's not wrong to publish these things.

Because of my work as a professor of people who are, or are planning to become, business executives, it's a great satisfaction to see those press photos of people who studied in one of my classes. At business schools, we often receive photos and articles mentioning our alumni. It's extraordinary to see that in Europe, North America, and China, more alumni are emerging. Clearly, women are being hired more frequently, and their good work is more widely publicized. Women's successes encourage more hiring. Undoubtedly, companies in the automotive sector that don't have any women in relevant areas and see articles like the one I'm commenting on will surely send their recruiters articles like the one I'm mentioning (100 pages of resumes of automotive sector executives).

Overview of an automotive trade fair

Patricia Galiana - Europa Press / Europa Press

In my areas of responsibility, in Europe, America, and China, I've hired many women, not because they are women, but because they are the best option for a specific position. When I launched the master's program at my school in China, there was an experienced European professor who seemed the most suitable, and it was a great success. For other topics, there was also an excellent Chinese candidate who performs very well internationally. When we launched a venture capital fund at IESE, the best candidate to lead it was a woman, and in 25 years, the fund has always been led by women, all alumni. We have always had a legal expert to properly manage the venture capital fund we call Finaves. But the reason has always been the excellent training of these women and their motivation to work on these issues.

Fortunately, we see a global evolution in choosing people with the best abilities needed, whether they are women or men.
