IMSS Pension: These people will NOT receive a bonus this year
Every year, the Christmas bonus payment represents a relief to the personal finances of millions of workers and retirees. However, not all IMSS pensioners will receive this benefit in 2025, and here we explain who is left out.
The official website of the Mexican Social Security Institute explains that According to the Social Security Law of 1973, people receiving pensions for Layoff at Advanced Age or Old Age under that regime are entitled to receive a Christmas bonus, This is equivalent to one month's pension, not including family allowances or social assistance. This payment is made during the month of November .
Nevertheless, Those who are pensioned under the Social Security Law regime in force since July 1, 1997, and which is the current one, will NOT receive a Christmas bonus, since said benefit is not included in their pension plan. This group is excluded from the additional deposit that many other pensioners will see reflected by the end of 2025.
The Federal Attorney's Office for Labor Defense (Profedet) indicates that the Christmas bonus originated as a voluntary bonus given by employers during the December holidays, but since 1970, it has been a mandatory labor right established in Article 87 of the Federal Labor Law (LFT) . This law stipulates that all subordinate workers must receive at least 15 days' salary as a bonus by December 20.
This right applies to workers, according to Article 123, Section A, of the Constitution, regardless of whether they are permanent, confidential, temporary, unionized, or contracted on a per-job basis. Even those whose employment relationship ends before that date are entitled to receive the proportional bonus.
