Remittances received in the first half of 2025 increased by 11.2%.

In the first half of 2025, remittances received in the Dominican Republic totaled $5.82 billion, an increase of 11.2% compared to the same period last year, the country's Central Bank reported today.
Specifically, June saw remittances valued at $923.8 million , a 7.9% increase compared to the same month in 2024, the bank noted in a report.
"These resources sent by the Dominican diaspora abroad are important for development , as they generate a multiplier effect on consumption, investment, and financing for the country's most vulnerable sectors," he added.
The Central Bank also highlighted that this positive performance of remittances "occurs in an international context in which an environment of high uncertainty and volatility persists in international financial markets, where global growth expectations have been affected, causing movements in capital flows and greater caution among households and businesses, particularly in countries that host migrant communities."
In the specific case of the United States , one of the main factors that influenced the behavior of remittances was the performance of some key indicators of that economy in June , from where 81.2% of the formal flows of the month analyzed originated, approximately 693 million dollars.
On the one hand, the overall unemployment rate stood at 4.1%, slightly lower than in May, remaining close to full employment levels, the bank highlights.
Similarly, the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) non-manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) registered a value of 50.8 in June , higher than the 49.9 observed in May 2025.
January | 802.0 | 874.1 | 935.6 |
February | 764.3 | 836.0 | 917.0 |
The Central Bank also highlights the receipt of remittances through formal channels from other countries in June , such as Spain , for a value of 59.7 million dollars , 7% of the total, making it the second country in terms of the total number of residents of the Dominican diaspora .
Haiti accounted for 1.4%. Italy and Switzerland each accounted for 1.3%. Countries such as Canada and France, among others, account for the remaining remittance receipts.
Regarding the distribution of remittances received by province, the Central Bank indicates that the National District received 38.2% in June , followed by the provinces of Santiago and Santo Domingo, with 12.5% and 8%, respectively.
This reveals that more than half ( 58.7% ) of remittances are received in the country's metropolitan areas.
As for remittances and foreign direct investment flows, it is estimated that by the end of the year they will be around 11.3 billion and 4.7 billion dollars, respectively.
