The Commons wrest an additional 850 million from the Government to allocate to housing

The Catalan government and the Commons have agreed to increase the allocation for housing policies by 850 million euros , reaching a total of 1.45 billion, "the largest investment" ever made by the Generalitat in this area.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alícia Romero , and the Speaker of the Commons in the Parliament , Jéssica Albiach . The increase in resources is possible thanks to the second tranche of the credit supplement agreed three-way between the PSC, the Commons , and the ERC.
The two supplements total €3.4 billion, and the first tranche will be approved in the regional parliament next Wednesday, May 7.
Romero ceded the lead role in the agreement to Albiach, who asserted that the figure reached in the budget —which has been extended for two years—is the "highest investment" in housing policies. Other items included are €13 million to develop the oral health law, €10 million to address the mental health of young people and adolescents, and €20 million to promote L'Energètica , the public energy company of the Generalitat .

These initiatives are part of the Generalitat's roadmap to achieve 50,000 VPO homes by 2030.
The new resources will also be used to hire 100 inspectors to ensure compliance with the sanctioning regime of the Housing Law —60 inspectors will be incorporated before the end of June, and the rest before 2026— especially in cases of seasonal rental fraud .
In addition, a specific anti-eviction unit will be launched, offering legal and social support to families and homeowners as they seek alternative solutions to limit evictions. A report will also be prepared on the impact of real estate racism in Catalonia.
