"We firmly reject any form of violence in political conflict, as it represents an unacceptable setback for Colombian democracy. Our recent history is marked by the pain of those who gave their lives to defend their ideas and aspirations in democratic settings," they stated.
Additionally, they said the labor reform proposal submitted to the Senate plenary session introduces regressive measures for workers, such as hourly contracts and the social protection floor, which legalizes incomes below the minimum wage.
"These regulations had already been proposed by former Labor Minister Alicia Arango during Iván Duque's administration and stem from the most rancid Uribe-ism. This is slavery," they stated.

They also pointed out that this "labor counter-reform" eliminates overtime by allowing daily workdays of more than eight hours under the employer-led workweek model of four days on, three days off, which would imply workdays of up to 11 hours per day.
"The labor nature of apprenticeships is not recognized, abusive six-month contracts for official workers are maintained, and perverse, employer-sponsored collective bargaining agreements persist, as well as fraudulent union contracts that violate the right to association ," they warned.

Because of this, the unions asserted their support for the referendum, which they said should be the people's decision-makers. They also reiterated their call for a mobilization this Wednesday, June 11, in the country's main capitals: Cali, Pereira, Medellín, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, and Bogotá.
