Unemployment continues to be a problem for Spain.Despite the 195,000 new registered workers in May due to the tourism boom, nearly 2.4 million people are still unemployed. Thus, there are 21.7 million employed people in Spain.

Although the number of unemployed has fallen in Spain for the first time since July 2008, millions of Spaniards remain unemployed, leaving them waiting for the date they will receive their benefits.

When do you get unemployment benefits in Spain?

As a general rule, unemployment benefits are collected on the 10th of each month or, if it's a holiday, the following business day. Unemployment benefits are paid in installments every 30 days , as established by current regulations, within the month immediately following the month in which they are due.

As specified by the Ministry of Labor, unemployment benefits are collected between the 10th and 15th of each month. However, some banks usually already have the information of those eligible for benefits and can advance the amount.

  • BBVA: from Tuesday, June 10

  • Caixabank: from Tuesday, June 10

  • Bankinter: from Tuesday, June 10

  • Kutxabank: from Tuesday, June 10

  • ING: from Wednesday, June 11

  • Ibercaja: from Wednesday, June 11

In May 2024 , unemployment benefits were reformed , raising the benefit to €570 per month. Benefits can be received for up to 30 months if the person has dependents and has used up 180 days of contributory pay.
