Débora Nuevo, longevity expert: "The secret to aging better isn't in a cream or a pill."

Longevity is a hot topic in Spain. But if we want to age well, we must take several factors into account . For example, exercise helps maintain a stronger, more mobile body. In fact, studies show that certain practices can extend life expectancy. Likewise, eating a balanced and healthy diet is another point to consider.

Aside from that, we've sometimes thought that one of the secrets to longevity lies in using creams or pills . For expert Débora Nuevo, that's not enough. According to her, the key lies in our microbiota and how we care for it. She explains why on her Instagram.

Debora Nuevo: "There's something more powerful inside you"

Dr. Débora Nuevo is a longevity expert and explains in a reel she posted on her Instagram account that one of the secrets to longevity lies in the way we care for our microbiota.

She points out that "there is something more powerful inside you," referring to the microorganisms in our bodies . These microorganisms, the expert points out, "regulate the immune system, modulate the inflammation behind all aging-related diseases, are involved in the production of antioxidants, and can regulate the quality of your skin, your energy level, and your mood."

He argues that there have been scientific studies that have investigated the connection between microbiota and longevity. "A varied and balanced microbiota is associated with greater longevity, less cognitive decline, and less cellular aging ," he explains about these studies.

The reason for these phenomena, according to Nuevo, is that "the microbiota is linked to the silent chronic inflammation that underlies accelerated aging." So, what solution do we offer?

The keys to living longer and better, according to Nuevo

She recommends eating prebiotic foods "such as asparagus, oats, or artichokes." According to the Mayo Clinic , prebiotics are foods "that act as nutrients for the human microbiota " and "are used to improve the balance of these microorganisms."

Nuevo also recommends eating probiotic foods like kefir or yogurt. In fact, according to a study conducted by the University of Trento (Italy) and published in the journal Cell last year, these two ingredients are thought to be the best for intestinal health .

Last but not least, the doctor recommends reducing "simple and processed sugar consumption" and, "as an extra boost," taking "a targeted probiotic."
