House-to-house medical visits begin for 450,000 beneficiaries in Jalisco.

House-to-house medical visits begin for 450,000 beneficiaries in Jalisco.

Starting this week, nurses and doctors will visit the homes of users who participated in the House-to-House Health Census, as well as senior citizens and people with disabilities who receive a pension from the Bienestar programs in Jalisco, which will be a universe of 450,000 beneficiaries in the state in the first stage.

At the start of the program, 900 health specialists and public officials will visit homes with the consent of the individuals. They will be identified by wearing a Bienestar cap and a House-to-House Health uniform. Katia Meave Ferniza, federal delegate for development programs in Jalisco, explained that the objective of this initiative is to promote prevention measures and early diagnosis.

In case they require further medical attention, beneficiaries may be channeled to hospitals second and third level of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), even if it does not have social security.

"Many of our seniors and people with disabilities don't have any kind of social security, so now with this program, if they need specialized care, they'll have access to it through the IMSS's secondary and tertiary hospitals [...]. We're formally launching this program. We ask all our beneficiaries who have already been registered to please open their doors to our Door-to-Door Health staff," he commented.

The delegate specified that the specialists will arrive at the home with an electronic tablet where they will be explained the program's objective. Beneficiaries will have to sign a consent form to receive medical care and be allowed into their home.

Once admitted, they will begin by taking the patient's medical history: family history, personal history (previous illnesses and treatments); checks of the nervous, cardiac, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and motor systems; a physical examination; an assessment of motor independence ( the ability to move around) and self-care (dressing, eating, and using the bathroom); and an assessment of the patient's mental status, i.e., depression, violence, risk of suicide, or neglect.

You will also be weighed, measured, and have your glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels checked. The results are used to determine your risk level (based on whether you are healthy or have medical conditions). A diagnosis and treatment are offered, and subsequent visits are scheduled, which may be every week to a month, depending on the severity of the patient's condition.

Meave Ferniza announced that the House-to-House Health program will include the installation of Bienestar pharmacies so that beneficiaries can fill the prescriptions that specialists will provide as part of their treatment. These pharmacies will be located in Bienestar stores and in ISSSTE and IMSS clinics and health centers.

"It will be the most qualified team in the entire Mexican government because she (President Claudia Sheinbaum) is very interested in providing friendly, dignified, personalized service at home, with a suit almost tailored to each of the beneficiaries," the delegate emphasized.

To be part of the program, you must be registered in the Welfare programs and complete the House-to-House Health Census, which the nation's health workers conduct at home during their visits. It is expected that 1,500 nurses will be deployed in Jalisco to visit the entire population in need.
