This is the number of surgeries that the IMSS will perform this year

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) released figures this Tuesday on surgeries, consultations, and other matters related to the organization.

It was Zoé Robledo, director of the IMSS, who highlighted the increase in family medicine consultations .

At President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's morning press conference this Tuesday, June 3, at the National Palace, Robledo highlighted the reduction in waiting times in Social Security , based on the increase in productivity of surgical services, specialty consultations and family medicine consultations.

He indicated that Two million surgeries, 30 million specialist consultations and 100 million family medicine consultations are expected this year. .

He recalled that family medicine consultations are those that occur at the primary care level in one of the 1,548 family medicine units : "Now with a very important emphasis on chronic degenerative diseases; diabetes, hypertension, and this also focuses on diseases of adult life."

"At the primary level of care, 81% of the population's health problems can be addressed. "Last year, 96 million family medicine consultations were conducted; 16% were first-time consultations, patients and beneficiaries visiting for the first time, and the rest were subsequent consultations (...)" he explained, highlighting the hiring of more male and female doctors.

He indicated that this year marks a record for the number of family doctors in the Social Security system, with 19,267, and that the number of offices has increased by 528 new ones .

"All these actions will allow us to have 5.7 million additional family medicine consultations , to reach the goal of 100 million family medicine consultations, among other things," declared the IMSS director. He added that weekend appointments have been opened.

He also reported that last week, the American Heart Association awarded the Cardiology Hospital at the Siglo XXI National Medical Center international certification as a comprehensive chest pain center.

"This recognition is held by three thousand hospitals worldwide, but this hospital, the 21st Century Cardiology Hospital, is the first in Mexico and the first in Latin America to receive it," he said, highlighting the three years it took to train its medical staff.
