Three first cases of measles confirmed in this other state of Mexico

Authorities in Baja California Sur confirmed the first three cases of measles, detected in minors, members of a family in the municipality of Comondú.
The state's Health Secretary, Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro, stated that samples were taken from a five-month-old girl, a five-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old boy, who live in the town of Ciudad Insurgentes, in that municipality, in an agricultural field, and the State Public Health Laboratory confirmed the positive result.
He indicated that the 5-month-old girl remains under surveillance at the General Hospital of Ciudad Constitución. Meanwhile, his brothers are under home confinement and are undergoing medical monitoring.

This is how the other minor, an eight-year-old boy, also with symptoms associated with the disease, was detected.
The official specified that a vaccine blockade is being implemented using MMR vaccines for children aged six months to nine years and SR vaccines for people aged 10 to 49 years.
He emphasized that vaccination coverage against this disease in Comondú is 95 percent, considering that the universal vaccination program consists of two applications: one at one year of age and the second at 18 months. According to federal guidelines, children who received their first dose in 2021 should receive their second dose at age six.

As of June 4, the federal Ministry of Health reported a total of 2,041 confirmed cases of measles in Mexico. Chihuahua, Sonora, and Zacatecas are the states with the highest number of cases, according to the epidemiological report. In Baja California Sur, authorities remain on alert due to suspicions of more infections; however, only three have been confirmed so far.
