Fat Joe Mourns Death of Mom Marie at 77

Fat Joe is mourning another tremendous loss.

The "Lean Back" rapper announced the death of his mom Marie Del-Carmen Cartagena at age 77, one week before Mother's Day.

The cause of her death was not made public. Marie passed away less than three months after her husband Ernesto Cartagena, Fat Joe's dad, died at age 89.

"This a real one, rest in peace to the woman who brought me in this world," the hip-hop artist—whose real name is Joseph Antonio Cartagena—wrote on Instagram May 3. "She didnt have much but she gave us everything. Anyone who knows my Mom knows she had a heart of gold."

Marie, who raised her family in the Bronx, NY, "refused to move out the projects for many years," Fat Joe wrote, adding, "even though I had money."

The 54-year-old said his mom "loved her community, she loved her people."

"I have to give thank’s to the father my God for letting me have her in my life this long," he added. "Truth is she died of a broken heart 60 years with a man and he recently just died, my Dad wanted her with him."

Concluding his tribute, which included photos of Marie with Fat Joe, his dad and other family members, the rapper wrote, "Mommy till I see you again you were my world, my heart, my everything. I’ll continue to make you proud."

Fat Joe had also paid tribute to his dad on social media following his death.

"Sad to announce the passing of my Father 'ERNESTO AKA CUBA' papi te quero para siempre," he wrote on Instagram in February. "This has been tough, I’m not looking for sympathy, just Honoring my Dad. He’s a Legend in my eyes. To my Mom, Wife, Brothers and Sisters i love you and we’ll always be united."
