Historic deal: South Park renews with Paramount

The Paramount Group announced this Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with the creators of the irreverent adult animated series South Park to acquire their catalog and premiere a new season, following lengthy negotiations.
The deal includes a five-year renewal with South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, encompassing 50 new episodes and the 26 from the previous season, the entertainment giant said in a statement.
The series has won six Emmy Awards, and new episodes will also air on Paramount + in the United States the day after they air on Comedy Central.
Under the new deal , Paramount will pay South Park Digital Studios more than $1.25 billion , marking one of the most expensive contracts in television history, according to a report Tuesday by the Los Angeles Times.
From the pactThe agreement comes after several months of legal dispute between both parties and Skydance , a company that plans to acquire control of Paramount in the coming months.

Paramount , which encompasses a multitude of television channels from CBS to Nickelodeon , announced in July of last year a merger agreement with Skydance , thus creating a new power in Hollywood that marked the departure of the Redstone family, until then and for decades the majority shareholders of Paramount .
But this merger has been delayed by several factors, including US President Donald Trump 's lawsuit against CBS News' " 60 Minutes ."
That lawsuit was settled Tuesday with a settlement of more than $36 million with Paramount Global, finally closing the litigation over the 2024 interview he conducted with his then presidential rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
