MEXICO CITY (apro) - The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) announced the launch of the Study Equivalence and Revalidation System (SERE) to facilitate the submission of procedures related to academic transition and the recognition of studies for students within the National Education System (SEN) through the online platform sere.sep.gob.mx. However, at the time of the announcement, the page was not opening, displaying an "error" message.

The platform is available on the aforementioned official website based on Agreement 16/04/25 DOF - Official Gazette of the Federation, signed by Secretary Mario Delgado and published today in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

According to the SEP, this platform will accept applications for revalidation and equivalency of higher education studies, with the exception of those related to Normal Education and other programs aimed at training elementary school teachers.

These are the procedures that, until now, were handled in person by the General Directorate of Accreditation, Incorporation and Revalidation (DGAIR):

  • Equivalence of studies completed in the National Education System (SEN).
  • Revalidation of studies completed abroad.
  • Duplicates of equivalence and revalidation resolutions.

The SEP clarified that the SERE "does not modify the regulatory requirements of the process, but rather facilitates the submission of documents, their analysis within the SEP, and the delivery of resolutions to applicants."

The website initiative, he added, represents "a substantial improvement in terms of efficiency, procedural economy, and user service" and follows the national strategy for digitizing procedures and services of the Federal Public Administration, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

Furthermore, this system will allow for 100% online processing, "without having to go to a counter. Users will be able to check the progress of their application in real time, download resolutions, and have their files stored digitally, all with complete transparency and without intermediaries."

With the new system, you can automatically monitor the progress of the process, ensuring the efficiency and transparency of the service, and you can download the final report "without intermediaries or managers."

In its first phase, the implementation of the SERE will contribute to the digitalization of procedures submitted to the DGAIR, while in the second phase, local educational authorities will be able to use and implement it.

According to the SEP, between 2021 and 2024, the General Directorate of Accreditation, Incorporation, and Revalidation issued a total of 20,809 equivalencies and 19,330 revalidations nationwide.
