Cuba donates 2,000 doses of yellow fever vaccine to Colombia: Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia expressed her gratitude.
The Cuban government donated 2,000 doses of yellow fever vaccine to Colombia in response to the health emergency declared due to the outbreak of this disease in the country. Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia expressed her gratitude for the gesture through her social media and highlighted the "solidarity of the Cuban people."
"We thank Cuba for its generous and supportive donation of more than two thousand doses of yellow fever vaccine. We continue working for the well-being of the country," Sarabia wrote on his X account.

The donation was confirmed in a letter sent by the Cuban ambassador to Colombia, Javier Caamaño Cairo, to the Minister of Health, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo. In the document, dated May 2, 2025, the ambassador explains that the donation corresponds to 200 vials, each containing 10 doses, of the yellow fever vaccine, manufactured by the Bio-Manguinios Institute of Technology and Immunobiologicals of Brazil.
"Due to the urgency of the matter, we request that you inform us of the acceptance of the aforementioned donation and how to proceed with its immediate shipment and delivery," the letter states.

How to recognize the symptoms of yellow fever?
Yellow fever is a serious viral disease transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes, such as Aedes aegypti. In Colombia, there has been a worrying increase in cases since 2024, leading authorities to declare a public health emergency.
Common symptoms
According to Dr. Andrés Marulanda, Medical Mission Coordinator of the Colombian Red Cross, who spoke with City TV about the initial symptoms of yellow fever that can include:
  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite

Severe symptoms
In more severe cases, the disease can progress and present symptoms such as:
• Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
• Bleeding (may progress to hemorrhage)
• Decreased urination
• Irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)
