Daniel Quintero and Camilo Romero would compete for the endorsement of the Historic Pact in the October referendum: they would compete against Bolívar, Muhamad, Corcho and Pizarro

Former Medellín mayor Daniel Quintero and former ambassador Camilo Romero are expected to join the fray to secure the Historic Pact 's endorsement for the 2026 elections. This was stated by both political leaders, who participated in the assembly of the leftist coalition this Saturday, July 19, which seeks to consolidate itself as a single political party.

At the summit, which brought together the party's presidential candidates, the rules for the party's referendum on October 26 were agreed upon. In addition to the presidential candidate, the candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives will be elected.

In the case of the presidency, there are initially six names on the ballot: in addition to Quintero and Romero, there are also María José Pizarro, Carolina Corcho, Susana Muhamad, and Gustavo Bolívar. However, it is not ruled out that more candidates will emerge during the process who wish to run for the presidency through the Historic Pact. The idea is for the winner to compete in the interparty elections in March against a candidate from the ruling Green Alliance and a centrist sector close to the government of President Gustavo Petro. This is the so-called broad front the president has spoken of, since the left, center, and right agree that no party can win the presidency alone.
This is how the process for choosing the presidential candidate of the Historic Pact will work. During the summit, the requirements for a member to participate in the October referendum were agreed upon. They must be affiliated with one of the parties that are part of the Historic Pact and must be nominated directly by one of the groups or movements that make up the single political party. Another option is to gather a minimum of 50 signatures from congressmen, deputies, councilors, or council members elected by the coalition.

Furthermore, whoever comes in second place in the October vote will be eligible to join the Historic Pact's Senate list.
The candidate registration process will take place between July 20 and August 26.

For the Senate list leader, it was agreed that the candidate will be chosen through a political agreement between the National Committee of the Historic Pact and the 20 candidates who occupy the top positions in the party poll. However, it was made clear that: "Only three candidates may be considered to lead the Senate list: the two candidates with the most votes in the Senate poll—one for each gender—and the person who comes in second in the presidential poll."
The order in which the candidates appear from the third row onwards will be determined by the results of the survey.
Regarding the House of Representatives, the entire order of the list to be presented in the March legislative elections will depend on the results of the consultation.
