Dialogue on the crisis in Haiti begins this Monday

The " Dialogue on the Haitian Crisis and its Implications for the Dominican Republic " at the Economic and Social Council ( CES ) will begin this Monday with working groups from six thematic roundtables that will comprehensively address the problems of the neighboring country.

The dialogue is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the facilities of the University of the Caribbean ( Unicaribe ).

To ensure the formation of the working groups, six thematic roundtables will be held simultaneously: migration , bilateral trade , development of border communities , national security, international relations, and labor issues.

It was previously reported that a total of fourteen delegates : two from the Government , two from each former president (Hipólito Mejía, Leonel Fernández and Danilo Medina), and two from each sector of the CES (social, labor and business), will make up the initial working groups of each thematic table.

Key stakeholders and experts who may be proposed by the delegates will join the working groups.

In addition, each panel will include a moderator and two rapporteurs appointed by the CES .

According to reports, representatives of the government and the former presidents will provide a base document and a guide of questions, which will constitute the basic input to initiate the discussions at the thematic roundtables, which are expected to operate for a maximum of one month, operating intensively and simultaneously.

Digital participation

To facilitate citizen participation, the CES will launch the digital platform " OpinaRD " and the email address "propuestasdialogo@ces.gob.do," where citizens, including Dominicans abroad, can submit their opinions, comments, proposals, and documents within fifteen days of the opening of the polls.

This dialogue is part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the CES , reaffirming its institutional mission and commitment to building consensus through a plurality of voices in the search for concrete, sustainable and articulated solutions in favor of the national interest.
