Fernando Hakim entrusts Miguel Uribe Turbay's recovery to San Charbel after a medical report shows signs of improvement.

Neurosurgeon Fernando Hakim, who heads the medical team treating senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, shared an image on his Instagram account in which he appears holding a statue of Saint Charbel.

The gesture was announced just hours after the Santa Fe de Bogotá Foundation issued a new medical report on the patient's condition, reporting clinical progress amid his delicate health.

Miguel Uribe Turbay has been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of that institution since June 7, when he was the victim of a firearm attack during a political event in the Modelia neighborhood of Fontibón, Bogotá. The gunshot wound to the head left him in critical condition, and he has since received specialized care from a multidisciplinary team.

The most recent medical report, issued on Monday, July 14, indicated that the patient has shown favorable progress despite the severity of his case. According to the Santa Fe Foundation, Uribe Turbay has responded steadily to the medical and surgical procedures performed, as evidenced by tests such as MRIs, CT scans, and Doppler studies.

"Patient Miguel Uribe Turbay continues to receive multidisciplinary care in the intensive care unit. Over the past few days, the patient has shown a favorable and stable clinical response, as evidenced by recent diagnostic imaging and his response to surgical and medical interventions," the statement released by the medical institution reads.

It was also confirmed that the neurorehabilitation protocol has been initiated as part of the comprehensive care process. However, the neurological prognosis remains guarded, and the patient remains under close monitoring. Current management includes mechanical ventilation support, sedation, and hemodynamic and neurological monitoring to ensure early detection of any changes.

Dr. Hakim, who has been in charge of Uribe Turbay's treatment since his admission, has repeatedly expressed his devotion to Saint Charbel, a religious figure he considers a source of spiritual strength in the midst of complex medical situations.

In recent days, also on social media, Hakim posted a video in which he expressed his gratitude for the messages of support received from citizens and expressed his appreciation to the medical team at the Santa Fe Foundation. In that message, he highlighted the commitment of the staff who have supported the process from the beginning.

Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, is a senator for the Democratic Center party and a presidential candidate. Since the attack, his health has been the subject of constant medical attention, while his progress has been closely monitored by his family, his political team, and the public.
