Former President Álvaro Uribe's harsh message to Gustavo Petro's government: 'It undermines national unity.'

Through the social network X, former President Álvaro Uribe sent a message to the government of Gustavo Petro after leaders of criminal gangs appeared with the president at an event in Medellín.
" Verbal bullets become lethal bullets at a time when the homeland, when institutions are threatened and lives are threatened and in danger," began Álvaro Uribe.
Similarly, the former president referred to the attack on Miguel Uribe a few days ago and stated that "many Colombians continue to die or have to flee."
"When the benchmark for peace is the display of those who have murdered, citizens receive the message that the crime is valid."
Uribe Vélez reaffirmed that Colombia cannot continue the path of "confusing peace and forgiveness with the glorification of criminals." He also called for a de-escalation of verbal aggression, a topic that has been a topic of recent debate.
"I must remember that in the government I led, the opposition had full protection. No opposition leader was assassinated; they had the same protection as my closest collaborators."

On June 22, the "Urban Peace" event announced by President Gustavo Petro took place in Medellín. Several people, including some ringleaders serving sentences, attended the plaza of the Alpujarra Administrative Center.
EL TIEMPO's Investigative Unit was able to establish that at least nine members of this negotiating table were present at the event, including Freyner Alfonso Ramírez García, alias Carlos Pesebre, leader of 'Los Robledo', a GDO linked to 'La Oficina'.
The fact that the ringleaders were on the platform alongside the president sparked condemnation from Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez and other political sectors.
