He then stated: "I, who bear immense political responsibility, am facing a trial. I have done so with respect for justice, for the Judge. I have presented my disagreements with the Prosecutor with frankness and respect. But we cannot forget that this trial was induced by the current government, by its most representative senator."
He then complained about events that arose during the proceedings: "After two motions for dismissal from respectable prosecutors, a prosecutor appointed and promoted by the current Minister of Justice, when he was Santos' attorney general, came to accuse me ," he said.

After 67 days of hearings, the trial against the former president ended with a request that he be declared innocent of the three crimes the Prosecutor's Office accuses him of, in what is considered the most important criminal case in the country due to the fact that a former president is the defendant.
"Considering the thoughtful arguments of the Prosecutor's Office, the representatives of the alleged victims, the defense attorneys, and the material defense attorneys, and in order to provide a response commensurate with them, I will take a few days to issue my ruling. Consequently, the date for this ruling has been set for July 28th at 8:30 a.m.," the judge announced.
The Prosecutor's Office has asked Judge Heredia to convict the former president, believing his evidence is sufficiently solid to warrant his prosecution for witness tampering, simple bribery, and procedural fraud. For its part, the Attorney General's Office has requested that Álvaro Uribe be acquitted.
