Leonel Fernández mourns the loss of Roberto Rodríguez Marchena
Former President of the Republic and president of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, Leonel Fernández , expressed his condolences on Wednesday for the death of Roberto Rodríguez Marchena , former spokesman for the Presidency and leader of the Dominican Liberation Party ( PLD ).
Through a message on his X account, Fernández lamented the loss of someone he considered a recognized figure in the field of national political communication .
"During his career, he carried out institutional responsibilities with clarity in his convictions and commitment to public service," he posted on his profile.

In his brief post, Fernández expressed his solidarity with the political leader's family, colleagues, and friends in this time of mourning .
Rodríguez Marchena died of a heart attack , according to the PLD . During the administrations of Danilo Medina (2012-2020), he served as Director General of Communications and spokesperson for the Presidency . In 2023, he was appointed communications coordinator for Abel Martínez's presidential campaign.
It is also recalled that Rodríguez Marchena served as the Presidential Press Director between 2004 and 2006 , during Fernández's third term, but resigned to support Danilo Medina's political aspirations.
With this message, the former president joins the long list of party leaders who have expressed their dismay at the news. Earlier, PLD President Danilo Medina offered his condolences for the death.
Various political figures from the PLD have expressed their regret, including Abel Martínez, Margarita Cedeño, Johnny Pujols, Gonzalo Castillo, and Francisco Domínguez Brito.
Leaders from both other opposition and ruling party leaders also expressed their condolences for Marchena's death. Among them were Omar Fernández of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party and the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dío Astacio of the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) .
Funeral servicesThe remains of Roberto Rodríguez Marchena will be displayed tomorrow, Thursday, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Lincoln Avenue.
