Organization rejects Leah Campos' statements on China

The Independence , Unity and Change Movement (MIU) rejected statements made by Leah Campos , nominated to serve as U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic, who stated that she will work tirelessly to counter "Chinese influence" in the Caribbean country.
In a press release, the MIU described Campos 's statements as "a lack of respect for national sovereignty " and a "poor diplomatic debut," considering that his stance reflects an interventionist vision that deviates from the principles of mutual respect that should govern bilateral relations.
The organization called on citizens to reject any form of foreign interference.
- "The Dominican people do not accept external conditions or agendas imposed by interests alien to our reality. Dominican sovereignty is not negotiable; it is defended," the group stated.
The MIU also urged the Dominican government and relevant institutions to take a clear position regarding what they consider to be an inappropriate attitude for a future diplomatic representative.
" National dignity must prevail over any geopolitical alignment," the organization stated.
