PLD opposes intervention in the Botanical Garden to widen avenue

Several members of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) opposed the Botanical Garden being affected, even minimally, for the expansion of República de Colombia Avenue.
José Dantés , who is also the organization's legal secretary , stated that this park is a public good that is subject to a series of laws that would have to be amended to make changes.
"I don't think it can be touched; it's truly a public good . So, unfortunately, they're going to have to find another solution, but the Botanical Garden is untouchable," he insisted.
Former Environment Minister Francisco Domínguez Brito said that "everything that mutilates is harmful ," even if it is a small portion .
The former attorney general questioned the government's interest in this project given the abandonment of other construction projects due to low capital investment .
"The only explanation I can find for this is some marked interest from someone in carrying out this project . What I've seen is that all government projects are paralyzed... So, why get involved in this noise , in this mutilation, when there are really more serious problems? Valle Nuevo needs more attention. Los Haitises," he indicated.
Domínguez Brito states that the Dominican Republic is experiencing a serious environmental crisis.
ThreatsFormer Senator Aris Yván Lorenzo accused the efforts of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), formerly the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), of being a threat to the environment.
"Every time the government, the PRD of darkness, which has become the PRM, takes office, the environment feels threatened. Remember that during the Hipólito Mejía administration, there was an attempt to do the same with Mirador Sur Park . I think the government doesn't show good feelings toward the environment," he opined.
These three leaders discussed the issue before participating in the Political Committee meeting, where they are to review the ruling by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) in which they declared the early election of a presidential candidate illegal.
