Senator María Fernanda Cabal will file a proposal requiring President Petro to undergo toxicological and psychiatric examinations.

In the midst of the most recent presidential address and cabinet meeting broadcast on the evening of Tuesday, July 15 , President Gustavo Petro lashed out at the owners of the EPS (Health Care Providers) for the health crisis in Colombia, the media , and even his own cabinet.
In a broadcast that lasted more than five hours, he addressed multiple topics of general interest to Colombians and made several statements that left a bitter taste in the mouths of several of the country's political leaders.

The opposition was no exception. On July 16, Senator María Fernanda Cabal of the Democratic Center Party announced a major legislative initiative. Cabal is expected to submit a proposal to the Senate on July 20, which promises to generate debate in the national political arena.
Senator Cabal will demand that the head of state be required to undergo toxicological and psychiatric examinations. The purpose of this request, according to the policy, is to determine the President's fitness to serve. This initiative follows the proposal the senator plans to file in the Senate on July 20, 2025.

Cabal, on his X account, stated: "On July 20, I will resubmit this proposal to demand that President Gustavo Petro be required to undergo toxicological and psychiatric examinations to determine his real capacity to serve as president."
The senator also argued that the nation faces "constant risk" due to the "repeated breaches, attacks on foreign governments, and erratic behavior"* that, according to her, characterize the head of state's behavior.
The document prepared by the congresswoman establishes that, if her proposal is approved, the president would have to undergo these tests within a maximum of 15 calendar days. This measure seeks to assess the president's fitness to govern, amid growing concerns about his performance and decisions.

To support her request, the Democratic Center senator referred to facts she describes as "public and notorious," which, according to the text of her proposal, would demonstrate possible addiction problems to psychoactive substances on the part of the head of state. The senator attributes these alleged addictions to recurring absences, failure to attend commitments on his official agenda, and various situations that, in her opinion, compromise national security and the proper exercise of public functions.
Additionally, the document presented by the congresswoman includes a statement from former Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva. In this statement, the former official recounted an experience in Paris that, in his words, confirmed the President's "drug addiction problem." However, in the same statement, Leyva acknowledges that, despite this alleged confirmation, he took no action or measures regarding the matter at the time.

During his speech, Petro questioned failures to comply with his government program and announced a new shakeup. While the criticism was widespread, one minister in particular received several complaints from the president: the Minister of Equality, Carlos Rosero.
The head of state questioned the failure to appoint porn actors Juan Carlos Florián and Amaranta Hank. "And speaking of equality, Minister of Equality (Carlos Rosero), what we have is an internal fight within the Ministry of Equality. You're firing me from the Bogotá Humana officials who demonstrated their struggle, at great risk because they had to go into exile and prostitute themselves in Paris, " he emphasized.
