The other sentence, handed down by the Jujuy Criminal Court of Appeals, was for threats. He was originally sentenced to three years and two months, later reduced to two years by the provincial court. That sentence became final in February 2021, when the highest national court rejected a defense complaint.
In June 2023, the Jujuy Court of Cassation rejected the defense's request to prevent the unification. The legal strategy continued with a constitutional appeal before the provincial Supreme Court of Justice, which was also dismissed.
The case then reached the Supreme Court , where Judges Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosenkrantz , and Ricardo Lorenzetti rejected the appeal. With this ruling, the judicial discussion was closed and the sentence of 15 years of effective prison was upheld, in addition to the absolute disqualification from holding public office.
Milagro Sala remains in custody, and her legal situation is no longer subject to review. The convictions that have accumulated over the past few years have resulted in a single sentence that includes crimes of corruption, threats, and organized crime.
The Supreme Court's decision marks the final closure of the case. Milagro Sala's sentence is final and must be served in full. The social leader of the Tupac Amaru movement will have to face the consequences of rulings that are no longer subject to judicial review.
