The political spectrum greeted the new Pope Leo XIV and highlighted the legacy of Francis


The proclamation of the new Supreme Pontiff , the American Robert Prevost , under the name of Leo XIV , generated an immediate wave of reactions across Argentina's political spectrum . From the ruling party to the opposition, there was no shortage of messages of support and good wishes after the white smoke appeared in the Vatican, also remembering and celebrating Francis ' legacy .
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem , was one of the first to speak out. “An American lion ,” he wrote on his X account, in a brief but symbolic message. The phrase echoed the name chosen by the new Pope and the power evoked by his first public words.

The Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos , joined the greetings with an institutional message: “ His Holiness Leo XIV is the new Pope of the Catholic Church, elected today as the spiritual guide of millions of faithful throughout the world. May God enlighten him with wisdom and strength in the enormous mission he assumes at the head of the Church. May his pontificate be a time of peace and encounter, continuing the legacy of our Pope Francis .”

From various sectors of the ruling party, the appointment was interpreted as a gesture of continuity with the pastoral path initiated by Francis, marked by dialogue and social commitment.
From Santa Fe, Governor Maximiliano Pullaro celebrated the appointment, stating that the new Pope is "a man of faith, appointed by our beloved Francis," and praised his message: "Evil will not prevail." According to the Radical leader, these words invite us to build a more just society in the face of the evils affecting young people.

In Córdoba, Martín Llaryora also expressed his support. “We are confident that the new Bishop of Rome will continue to promote brotherhood and dialogue among peoples,” he stated. “This historic moment renews our commitment to the values of justice and peace,” the governor added.

From the balcony of St. Peter's Square, Leo XIV had moving words for his predecessor. "We still hear in our ears that faint but always courageous voice of Pope Francis blessing Rome," he said. He recalled his last appearance, on Easter Sunday, and asked the faithful's permission to continue the same gesture.
" God loves you very much , God loves everyone, and evil will not prevail. We are all in God's hands," the new Pontiff concluded in his first message as leader of the Catholic Church.
