Before the end of 2025, WhatsApp will broadcast advertisements

By the end of 2025, companies will be able to run ads on WhatsApp statuses, Meta announced via CNBC.

In a little- known report, the business and economics channel said this will happen 11 years after Facebook bought the app for $19 billion.

“Meta is finally bringing ads to WhatsApp,” he emphasized, marking a significant shift for an app whose founders rejected advertising.”

Meta explained that users will be able to interact with advertisers through the app's messaging features.

More specifically, ads will only be shown to users within the WhatsApp “Updates” tab to separate promotions from personal conversations .

Additionally, the company will begin monetizing the WhatsApp Channels feature through search ads and subscriptions.

This change “represents a significant step in Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plans to make WhatsApp ‘the next chapter’ in his company’s history ,” he told CNBC’s Jim Cramer three years ago.

“The move to monetize WhatsApp also comes amid Meta’s high-profile antitrust case with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over the messaging app company’s high-profile acquisitions of Instagram ,” Meta said.

Meanwhile, the company allows advertisers to run so-called click-to-message ads on Facebook and Instagram, which direct users to WhatsApp, where they can interact directly with businesses.

Messaging between brands and consumers “should be the next pillar of our business,” Zuckerberg reportedly told analysts in April.

WhatsApp currently has more than 3 billion monthly users, including “ 100 million people in the United States.”

Since Meta acquired WhatsApp in 2014, the popular messaging app has continued to grow worldwide.

But unlike Facebook, Instagram, and, more recently, Threads, WhatsApp has never allowed advertising.

THE POTENTIAL MARKET FOR WHATSAPP IN MEXICO AND COAHUILA

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app in Mexico , with an estimated user base of 63 million, although some projections for 2025 are closer to 70 million, and other estimates put the number at 77 million by 2024.

Considering that 88.2% of the population uses the internet and more than 90% uses WhatsApp , the number of users of that app in Coahuila is approximately 2.6 million, according to calculations made with artificial intelligence.
