China dazzles the world: 11,787 synchronized drones fly by, breaking Guinness World Record

With the passage of time and the advancement of technology, the use of drones has reached many sectors. Not only for military and police purposes , but they also deliver packages, perform surveillance tasks, and offer numerous entertainment possibilities, such as audiovisual media, among many other uses.

But in recent years, they've also become a substitute for fireworks in light shows, as they can form shapes in the sky, move to the beat of music, and, best of all, they don't make as much noise or pollute as much.

According to Rest of World , these types of events generated $339 million globally in 2023, with China leading the way. Other locations, such as the Middle East, are also investing in them, and the industry itself is creating new jobs related to the design and organization of drone shows.

China breaks another Guinness World Record in a drone show

Without leaving China, the Asian country is one of the most advanced in this type of show , having managed to break world records . In fact, as reported by CGTN , the last record was on June 17, when 11,787 drones flew simultaneously in the city of Chongqing.

The show was called "Enchanting Chongqing," and drones created stunning images in the sky, capturing scenes depicting the city's nature, culture, and modernity . One of the most striking features was the enormous skyscrapers made entirely of lights, which appeared to float in the air.

One of the biggest challenges for the organizers was figuring out how to fly them, given that the control tower was on a hilltop and the drones took off from lower platforms . It was also important that the audience could see the tower clearly, as it was located on both banks of a river .

The drones flew just above the water, covering a vast expanse of over a kilometer. Although some drones experienced technical issues and failed to fly properly, the final number that did make it was 11,787, which was enough to break the previous record of 10,197 drones .
