Do you share your HBO Max account? Now you'll be charged more for doing so.

Bad news for those who share their HBO Max account, as starting in September, this practice will incur an additional cost for users. According to international reports, the charge will be $7.99 for each additional member who does not live at the same address as the account holder, or about 148.96 Mexican pesos , according to the current exchange rate.
This change has been confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery's head of streaming, JB Perette , and was first reported by the specialized media outlet The Verge. According to the information, users will begin receiving notifications directly on the platform regarding the implementation of this new rate.
So far, the measure will begin in the United States , while in countries like Mexico , the change has yet to be confirmed. However, the update is expected to arrive gradually, as has been the case with other streaming services that have implemented restrictions on account sharing, such as Netflix and Disney+ .
In the HBO Max Help Center , US users can now find details in the "Additional Members" section, located within the Plans and Pricing section. For users in Mexico, this section is not yet available , though we recommend staying tuned for updates in the coming weeks.
It's worth noting that, following WarnerMedia's merger with Discovery, the platform had changed its name to Max . However, in July 2025, it announced a return to the original name: HBO Max , in an attempt to regain its brand identity and differentiate itself from other platforms.
So far, HBO Max has not issued an official statement regarding when the change will be implemented in Latin America. As with Netflix, the rollout is expected to begin in larger markets and gradually expand.
