Elon Musk will take legal action against Apple for favoring OpenAI on the App Store.

Elon Musk has announced that he will take legal action against Apple through his artificial intelligence firm xAI because he believes that favors OpenAI , preventing the competition from reaching the top spot in its app store.
xAI has open sourced Grok 4 , its latest and most advanced artificial intelligence model, for all users, including those with a free account, following the example of OpenAI, which immediately launched GPT-5 for everyone. It has also introduced Grok Imagine , for generating videos and images.
This decision has had an impact on Apple's App Store rankings. According to 9to5Mac, Grok 4, available since July, boosted the Grok app from 60th to 29th place last week, while the announcement of free access boosted it to fifth place.
None of these announcements have been enough to dethrone OpenAI's app, ChatGT, from the top spot or top spots, which hasn't pleased Elon Musk, who has directly accused Apple of favoring its main rival.
"Apple is behaving in a way that makes it impossible for any AI company other than OpenAI to reach the #1 spot on the App Store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation," he wrote on the social network X. For this reason, Musk has assured that "xAI will take immediate legal action ."

The rivalry between Elon Musk and OpenAI is nothing new. Not only do they compete in the AI market with their own models and chatbots, but Musk was one of the co-founders of the artificial intelligence firm and, after his departure, tried to block the company's transition to a for-profit model.
